DISEASES TREATED BY A DERMATOLOGIST

The skin is not only the superficial epidermis that we see with our eyes. It consists of a deeper dermis with blood vessels, nerve fibers, hair follicles, sweat and sebaceous glands, as well as underlying fatty tissue, which is involved in metabolism. Diseases of all these structures, regardless of the causes of their occurrence, are within the competence of a dermatologist.

To date, more than 120 dermatological diseases are known, among which are:

 

  • infectious diseases of the skin of a viral nature: herpes, papillomas, genital warts, vulgar warts, molluscum contagiosum, herpes zoster;

  • skin pigmentation disorders: age spots, vitiligo;

  • non-infectious inflammatory skin diseases: dermatitis, eczema and dermatosis;

  • psoriasis;

  • benign neoplasms of the skin: moles, nevi, atheromas, keratomas, lipomas, fibromas, papillomas and warts;

  • dysfunction of the fatty glands (seborrhea);

  • acne (acne);

  • hyperhidrosis - excessive sweating;

  • hypertrichosis - increased hairiness and hair growth in atypical places;

  • pathological alopecia (alopecia);

  • oncological diseases of the skin: melanoma and basalioma.

SYMPTOMS THAT SHOULD BE A REASON TO SEE A DERMATOLOGIST

An appointment with a dermatologist is necessary if the following symptoms appear:

 

  • skin itching, prolonged and periodically recurring;

  • skin rashes in the form of vesicles, blisters or blisters, nodules or knots, small red dots or large red spots, pustules or large abscesses;

  • intense baldness, hair loss in women;

  • increased fragility, discoloration and peeling of the nail plates.
